R.C. beams and pillars cover removal

The covermeter allows the localization of steel rebars in r.c. elements, however sometimes it does not provide a sufficiently reliable estimate of the bars diameter. It is then advisable to directly inspect the steel bars, at least in some relevant positions, for measuring with the calliper the bars diameter but also for checking their oxidation level, through removal of the concrete cover. The investigation involves the demolition of any covering (for example plaster) and the cortical layer of concrete (steel rebars/stirrups cover) in a way to allow the survey of the reinforcement (smooth bars, with improved adhesion, stirrups , hooks, …), measuring details, thickness of the concrete cover and allowing to obtain photographic documentation.
