Measurements of the corrosion potential

The test consists in the analysis of areas of reinforced concrete structures exposed to the atmosphere using the potential mapping method, with the aim of evaluating the corrosion state of the reinforcements. The first step is to check the electrical continuity of the rebars and of the rebars with the joint. The reference electrode is placed in electrolytic contact with the concrete surface: it is connected to the negative terminal of the voltmeter, while the steel rebars are connected to the positive terminal. Measurements are carried out by placing the reference electrode at different areas of the surface of the structure, according to a grid of appropriate spacing previously drawn on the surface itself. Any potential variations read on the instrument at different points of the recording grid may indicate different oxidation states of the rebars, also in terms of threshold values.
