Leeb hardness test

Hardness tests on structural steel elements (plates, tubes, profiles…), including suitably smoothed reinforced concrete rebars, are carried out to estimate the steel strength. The metal elements subjected to testing must have a thickness greater than 3 mm, a minimum curvature radius of 30 mm, a distance from the edge of the impact point greater than 5 mm, and the sample subjected to testing must be rigidly constrained to the structure of which it is part. The test includes preparing the surface and taking at least 3 measurements (or a number equal to 10 if data dispersion is found).
