Estimation of moisture content in solids by electrical method
The moisture (or water) content of a material is defined as the ratio between the weight of the water within the material in its current state and the weight of the material dried at 103°C.
The on-site measurement of moisture content using the resistive method is based on the relationship between the electrical resistivity of a material and its water content. As water within the pores of a solid is a good conductor, it reduces the electrical resistance of the material.
The test is carried out using a resistance hygrometer, whose electrodes are driven into the material to the selected depth by means of manual percussion.
