Sampling and analysis of mortar specimens

The test consists of extracting a limited quantity of mortar from the inner part of masonry walls for its physico-chemical characterization (mineralogical-petrographic study). Samples of mortar extracts are documented, cataloged and analyzed in thin section under a polarizing microscope. The study defines the compositional and textural characteristics of the mixtures, identifying the mineralogical constituents of the binder and aggregate, and assessing the state of conservation of the mortars.
