Measurement of the corrosion potential

The investigation enables the evaluation of the corrosion state of steel rebars on areas of reinforced concrete structures exposed to the atmosphere. The electrical continuity of the rebars and between them and the joint is checked. The reference electrode is placed in electrolytic contact with the concrete surface and connected to the negative terminal of the voltmeter, while the rebar is connected to the positive terminal. Measurements are made by placing the reference electrode in different areas of the surface of the structure, according to a grid of appropriate spacing previously drawn on the surface itself. Any potential variations read on the instrument at different points of the recording grid may indicate different oxidation states of the rebars, also in terms of threshold values.
