Complementary Services
Expin avails of qualified collaborators and suppliers to carry out technical activities that do not fall within its expertise and in any case the aspects identified by ministerial authorization.
It happens very often, in fact, that together with structural investigations, highly specialized investigation methods are required or which fall within other technical areas. The range of services offered by Expin therefore expands substantially, benefiting from this technical network of professionals and qualified companies. A non-exhaustive list of complementary services offered by the Expin laboratory – in addition to the physical and mechanical tests on construction materials carried out at authorized or official laboratories pursuant to L1086/71 – is shown below:
– geognostic investigations (CPT/CPTu penetrometric tests, DPSH, SPT surveys and tests, collection of undisturbed samples during rotation surveys and laboratory tests, geological reaction)
– geophysical investigations (MASW active surface wave tests, HVSR passive seismic surveys, low frequency ground penetrating radar tests for interception of underground utilities, mapping of seabed structures or archaeological areas, down hole tests, cross hole tests, geoelectric tests, assessments of residual war risk , seismic microzonation studies, vibrational tests for the characterization of deep foundation structures)
– laboratory chemical analyzes (X-ray diffractometry using a powder diffractometer, Optical microscopy in polarized transmitted light on a sample prepared in thin transverse section, Optical microscopy in reflected light on a sample prepared in shiny transverse section, Observations using environmental scanning electron microscopy ( ESEM) and electron microprobe (EDS) analysis on transverse polished section, Xylotomy examination for the identification of the woody species, Ion chromatography (IC) for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of water-soluble salt species
– topographic monitoring and photogrammetry and surveys with structured light systems (use of a total station for surveying artefacts, of a high-precision total station and prisms/microprisms positioned on the structures under observation and on fixed points or for carrying out subsequent measurement take-offs for carrying out monitoring, photogrammetric survey, structured light statuary surveys)
– audit of potentially carcinogenic materials present in the structures and carrying out laboratory analyzes to verify the presence of asbestos or other substances
– specialist consultancy on wooden elements (dendrochronological investigations, presence of specific xylophagous insects and characterization of fungal attacks)
– special inspections (underwater, on rope)
– archaeological surveillance (excavation assistance, drafting of Preventive Assessment for Archaeological Interest – VPIA)
– restorer activity (carrying out stratigraphies to find pictorial layers, valuable restorations)
